Have you ever felt like you were not the one for the job? Like you wanted to give up before you even started? I have a feeling your answer is “yes.”

There are many possible reasons for this, but I believe it usually comes down to comparing yourself to someone else. They are smarter than me. They are more talented than me. I don’t have what it takes. The list can go on and on when we look at our human limitations.

Moses did this when God chose him to: “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” Moses replied with hesitation, saying to God, “Who Me?”  Exodus 9 tells us he said, “Who am I, that I should go? I shudder and am slow of speech.” But God answered by telling Moses who HE was and that HE would be with Him.

What was true for Moses is true for you and me. Our confidence and security are found in who God is and what He says, not in who we are. If we look within we fall short. If we look to God we see who He is, and ourselves as He sees us.

When I sensed God telling me to write the book (After The Crash), I knew nothing about writing, and in a sense said, “Who me?” But knew God wanted me to proclaim His faithfulness and comfort to others. I felt reassured that He’d be with me as He was with Moses. When looking to myself, I became discouraged, fearful and stifled. But looking to God filled me with hope and courage. Each step of obedience I took connected me to the right person or information I needed to accomplish this immense task.

Corrie Ten Boom said, “Look at the world, you’ll be distressed. Look within, you’ll be depressed. Look at God, you’ll be at rest.” Things get done in this place of rest.  Miracles happen. Lives change. God does more than we can ask or imagine! God continues to amaze me as He brings new direction and focus with each step of obedience I take. He delights in using many people to help accomplish this in our lives. We all have something different to contribute to someone else’s story.

Wherever you’re at in your journey please don’t give up. You can rest in who God is. He knows who He made you to be. But don’t stop there! When you feel like saying, “Who me?”, take that next step of obedience. Watch as He directs your steps with new information and new people; watching  Him do more than you could ask or imagine. He is faithful to carry, empower and equip you with what He has called you to do.

Remember that you are eternally loved! There was no beginning and there will be no end to God’s for you!
